2019-20 and 2020-21 School Calendars
& Bright Future Phase II

Dear MCS Families,

In an effort to provide as much transparency as possible, the MCS Board remains committed to updating our community as material information related to Phase II becomes available. We sincerely appreciate the questions, comments and encouragement that have come to us via email. The past few weeks have moved quickly and we appreciate your grace as we prepare our communications and heed God’s timing in all of this Kingdom work!

We are working parallel paths to raise the needed capital and to develop a detailed plan for summer 2020 construction. This detailed plan includes modifications to our 2019-20 and 2020-21 school calendars to widen the summer 2020 construction window as wide as reasonably feasible.

School Calendars
Our calendars 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 are designed by the Principals and faculty to specifically accommodate the Phase II construction activity during the summer of 2020. The plan is to move back to our regular vacation durations thereafter. We appreciate your understanding as we’re trying to create as large a window as possible for a Phase II construction project in summer 2020. If your family has already booked vacations based on our typical school year, please work closely with your teachers to make plans for make-up class work, tests, etc. Please note that by shaving off a few days from our typical holidays, we maintain the number of instructional days to uphold our academic standards. Additionally, we’ll be working closely with PTF to move non-instructional activities such as parties and celebrations to non-school hours and/or offsite so that our teaching time is fully-utilized.

Now that we have more planning time for the Phase II work, the construction team is having extensive discussions to find ways to build to our current budget. We’re looking at all opportunities to reduce scope and use more affordable materials.

As always, please feel free to reach out with any questions via email.

Sincerely,

Lewis Brewster

Town Hall Meeting: Wednesday, May 1st, 2019, 6:30PM

Hello Wonderful MCS Families-

This email is coming to you completely as a grassroots parent email…

We attended the Town Hall Meeting at school on Tuesday and we were all, once again, very moved to see how God is working at our school. Troy was open, honest and completely transparent in where we are in the Bright Future Campaign and what is needed to complete Phase 2. He answered a myriad of questions on all topics. And, he also explained in detail how the Phase 2 construction will, in addition to so many benefits, greatly increase the stellar academics at our school, the HUGE addition of natural light for each student every day and how God has moved mountains to put us where we are ONLY ONE YEAR since this project was introduced to any of us. Sitting in the brand new auditorium (Argyros Center for Performing Arts) for the meeting, it was particularly staggering to realize how much has been accomplished in such a short time.

WE ARE ON A ROLL and the MOMENTUM is moving FORWARD! We felt there might be quite a few parents who were not able to attend due to work, other commitments, etc. It is powerful to hear exactly what is happening and have it NOT be in a text or email. We asked Troy if he would be open to answering questions in an EVENING Town Hall Meeting. He said that we as parents would have to organize it and, if we did, he would be there.

So, here we are!

Join us on WEDNESDAY, MAY 1st, from 6:30pm – 8pm in the Argyros Center for Worship and Preforming Arts for another TOWN HALL MEETING – Adults only, please.

The time is closing this week to receive the funds and pledges for the start date this coming June. There are major increases if the project is delayed until next Summer. LET’S GET THIS DONE THIS SUMMER! PLEASE JOIN US WEDNESDAY NIGHT (5/1) at 6:30PM if you were not able to attend on Tuesday or please come again if you have more questions. : )

Bright Future Phase 2 Update

Thank you for your continued prayers and commitment to the mission and vision of Mariners Christian School. The MCS School Board met last night to discuss next steps regarding a Summer approval for Phase Two construction. Our Leadership desires to promote healthy stewardship and remains committed to incurring the least amount of debt possible.

Based on our current family pledge count of 55 out of “100 Pledges Needed,” there is a strong likelihood that our construction date will be delayed until Summer 2020. During the next two weeks, while the contractor and project manager continue to value engineer the project based on our requests, we encourage you to discuss and pray over God’s leading to become involved in this transformational project.

I am still eager to meet with as many of you as possible, especially given the bonus time we have been given. I am also holding a Town Hall Meeting on Tuesday, April 30th, at 8:15AM, in the Argyros Center for Worship and Performing Arts for you to learn more details about the project, talk about the importance of donorship, and answer any questions you may have. I am also eager for anyone on my Advancement Team to have that conversation, and/or we encourage you to be a part of what God is doing by setting up your family’s PLEDGE ONLINE HERE. Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns by contacting Troy Moore or Julie Hellriegel.

We know God’s timing is always perfect, and we trust in His leading into HIS “Bright Future.” We do not want this update to be discouraging in any way — HE is doing miraculous things in and through the lives of our students, and HE will continue to do so, regardless of when our Master Campus Plan is completed. We are grateful for each and every pledge we have received to date and pray that God’s will would be accomplished as it relates to Bright Future Phase Two construction.

Bright Future Phase 1 Vision

TIMELINE: April, 2018

Bright Future Comprehensive Campaign Vision

Our vision is to provide students with the finest faith-based educational experience in the country, developing their spiritual and academic strengths in preparation for high school, college, and their professional callings.

MCS has been been growing and changing significantly on the “inside,” becoming a leading-edge provider of Christian education. Now, we stand poised to transform on the “outside,” giving students a state-of-the-art learning environment that will ignite their hearts and inspire their imagination. As we transform our current campus into a thoroughly modern 21st Century learning environment for children, we are creating spaces where our remarkable staff carry out the MCS mission in new and innovative ways, where students flourish and discover their God-given talents and passions, and where families find connection and belonging with other Christian parents.

Perhaps most significant of all, the MCS vision is to build upon our 30-year legacy as a leader in Christian education and establish a reputation that can serve as an exemplar for other schools, a model resource and training ground for best practices in Christian education.

To carry out this God-sized vision, MCS has launched a comprehensive campaign that will dramatically modernize the entire campus to reflect our Core Values and unwavering commitment to excellence, as well as build a strong foundation of program support to ensure the future viability of MCS.

YOU’RE JOYFULLY INVITED IN TO WHAT GOD IS DOING!
